Orcas Community Resource Center would like to extend our gratitude to the Sons of the American Legion who kindheartedly purchased shoes for 97 Orcas children in need.
The last few weeks of summer have been rather extraordinary, and we would like to share with you just how extraordinary they have been!
As the “Giving Season” officially winds down, I am in awe of all that our community continues to provide. As you may know, the Orcas Community Resource Center works with Island Market to facilitate the Giving Tree, a program that helps more than 200 island children and their families enjoy a merrier Holiday Season.
In the winter months, gas and electric bills often skyrocket, and for those already struggling to get by, this additional expense can force agonizing choices. Often, low-income families live in older homes and rental houses or trailers without good insulation. For seniors living on a fixed income, an increase in utility bills can be devastating to their budget. Continue reading “Helping islanders through the lean winter months”
One of many privileges we have here at the Resource Center is that of providing services and resources to several of our island veterans. Our partners in serving our veteran friends include the San Juan County Veterans Advisory Board, a veteran advocate at the Opportunity Council in Bellingham, Orcas Senior Center, and the Sunrise Volunteers!
