Peek inside the Coates Cabinet, where neighbors find free hygiene essentials.
A local Orcas family recently faced a frightening diagnosis: their child needed urgent off-island medical care. Between ferry trips, missed work, medical bills, and everyday expenses, the costs added up quickly.
Coates Cabinet helps families access hygiene and household essentials — items like soap, shampoo, diapers, toothpaste, and cleaning supplies — so limited funds can go toward urgent needs like transportation, food, utilities, or housing.
For families navigating a health crisis, this kind of support can make a real difference. It helps preserve dignity, reduce stress, and keep neighbors stable while they focus on healing.
The Orcas Community Resource Center established Coates Cabinet in 2017 to address hygiene poverty and support the overall wellness of our community.
No one should have to go without basic items that support health, cleanliness, and dignity.
